In 1994, Charlie Masala recognised the need for people of all races in South Africa to hear the message of the Kingdom of God. A student at Technikon Northern Transvaal (TNT) at the time, he managed to organise a conference on campus with Dr Myles Munroe as the keynote speaker. Charlie had already been exposed to Munroe’s teachings and he felt that the Kingdom message of unity, reconciliation and leadership was a timely one. Charlie was right.
The conference at TNT was a great success and Dr. Munroe even agreed to mentor him!
Over the next two decades, Charlie and Xoli Masala hosted Myles Munroe and his wife Ruth during their many visits to Africa. Charlie was appointed President of Myles Munroe International–Africa and he travelled together with Dr Myles to speaking engagements around the world.
They grew close and Dr Munroe often used to say, “I believe that God had me in mind when he created Charlie Masala!” This personal mentorship exposed Charlie to Myles Munroe’s extraordinary knowledge and understanding on many key topics.
Dr Myles Munroe’s passion and vision were to “Transform Followers into Leaders and Leaders into Agents of Change” and “Maximization of Individual Potential.” He founded the International Third World Leaders Association (ITWLA) in his quest to address the “Third World mentality” that still plagues people in developing nations.
Myles Munroe authored over seventy books, with fifteen of those titles becoming bestsellers. His books, audio and video tapes were translated into twelve languages. Among his most popular works are Understanding Your Potential, Becoming a Leader, Rediscovering the Kingdom, God’s Big Idea, In Charge, and Benefits of Change.
He shared a global platform with presidents and prime ministers to Hollywood stars and professional athletes. He also addressed live audiences from 30 to over 300 000 and television audiences of over 1.4 billion. Dr Munroe earned BA and MA degrees from Oral Roberts University and the University of Tulsa and numerous honorary doctoral degrees from leading universities such as ORU and Canada Christian College. He served as an adjunct professor at the Graduate school of Theology at ORU. Myles and Ruth Munroe were married for over 30 years and were the proud parents of two college graduates, Charisa Munroe (Bs, MSS) and Myles “Chairo” Munroe Jr. (Bs, MBA). The Munroe siblings have picked up the baton and visited the continent for speaking engagements several times since their parents’ untimely deaths in November 2014.
In establishing Kingdom Community, Charlie and Xoli Masala wish to honour the legacy of Myles Munroe by continuing to help people reach their God-given potential, teach the Kingdom message and establish kingdom communities.
